7 Women’s Health Tips

7 Women’s Health Tips

Ladies, let’s face it, looking after our minds and bodies on top of juggling the stresses and labours of everyday life is far from easy. Everywhere we look we’re constantly bombarded by ads based upon “healthy living”, not to mention the constant barrage of targeted ads from so-called “influencers” on social media, peddling products they don’t believe in and in all honesty, they’ve probably never even used themselves.

Being a woman in the modern world is tough. Sure, in your mind you’re going to go to sleep at 10pm each night, wake up at 6AM, do yoga, prep your meals for the day, shower, eat a healthy breakfast, and drink a green smoothie that looks like pond water, all before 8.30AM when most people are getting up. In reality, though, for a lot of women leading that type of lifestyle is simply not possible. And that’s okay.

There are plenty of ways to improve our physical and mental health and wellbeing, and here are just 7 suggestions.

Stop dieting!
First and foremost, stop dieting!

There’s heaps more to life than constantly trying to lose weight, and besides, if you do genuinely wish to/need to lose weight, dieting is not the solution.

All dieting does is promote a toxic relationship with food and make us feel guilty for those days when we have the audacity to drink a glass or two of wine and eat a bar or two of chocolate when we’re feeling low.

If you are serious about losing fat, dieting possibly offers a quick fix solution that is not sustainable in the slightest. Instead, you should make some lifestyle changes, try to watch what you eat, and enjoy treats in moderation.

Try to eat more fruits and vegetables
Yes, yes, we know we’re probably stating the obvious here, but seriously, do not underestimate the importance of eating fresh fruits and vegetables on a daily basis.

Fruits and veggies are crammed full of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fibre, and other nutrients which our bodies absolutely thrive upon.

Vitamin C for example, is commonly found in most fruits and vegetables in large concentrations, which is very handy as it strengthens the immune system. As our immune systems are responsible for protecting us from illness and disease, the stronger we can make them, the better.

Experts recommend at least 5 portions of fruits and vegetables each day. Just be aware that fruit does contain much more naturally occurring sugars than vegetables, so aim to consume 80% veggies and 20% fruits.

Get enough sleep
Never underestimate the power of sleep.

Sleep helps us to metaphorically recharge our batteries. It helps to promote healing, it boosts immunity, it works wonders for our mental health, it helps give us more energy, and heaps more besides.

If you aren’t getting enough sleep each night, do everything in your power to rectify that as soon as you can.

Sleep requirements differ from person to person, but generally speaking you should aim to get between 7 and 9 hours each night. You should also try to get into a routine so that you go to sleep and wake up at roughly the same time each day.

Invest in a quality probiotic supplement
It may sound a little bizarre, but probiotics are actually living organisms that help to promote a healthy balance of bacteria within the body.

Quality probiotic supplements such as Women’s Probiotic are enriched with specially selected bacterial strains such as Lactobacillus and Lactobacillus Rhamnosus. These strains of bacteria are very beneficial for women’s health as they can survive harsh internal conditions, allowing them to survive once they reach the vagina, helping to restore balance and promote optimal intimate health.

You should also look for probiotics containing Cranberry Extract, as this provides protection against urinary tract infections, which as you may know, can be absolutely awful.

Breathe more
Telling somebody to breathe more may sound a little obsolete, or perhaps even patronising, but you’ll understand where we’re coming from in just a few moments.

Each day, ideally in the morning before you start your day, inhale slowly and take 100 deep and concentrated breaths. What is known as ‘conscious breathing’ has been linked with a wide variety of health benefits from boosting immunity to helping to manage/prevent stress.

Supercharge your smoothies with superfoods
One of the best ways of getting more nutrients into your body each day is to drink them via smoothies. Yes, yes, we know we made fun of green smoothies and compared them to pond water, but despite looking a little questionable, these shakes and smoothies work wonders for your mind and body.

Smoothies are ideal as you can add superfoods, fruits, vegetables, oats, protein supplements, nuts, seeds, and other healthy and tasty ingredients, before drinking them down in one go.

Add antioxidant-rich foods to your smoothie such as blueberries, wheatgrass, goji berries, chia seeds, etc, as they will not only boost your health, they’ll also improve skin cell health. This in turn will provide your skin with a healthy glow, increase its elasticity, plump it out, moisturize it, and help prevent lines and wrinkles.

Drink more water
In a perfect world, gin and tonic water, and glasses of wine would be good for the body and very healthy. Sadly, we don’t live in an ideal world so alcohol is off limits if you are looking to improve your health.

Instead, stay hydrated with water.

The human body consists of more than 60% water, and we need it to function and to perform a wide range of different biological processes. If we aren’t hydrated enough and haven’t drank enough water, our health begins to suffer.

Each day you should aim to consume at least 2 litres of fresh water. Ideally you should start your morning off with a glass of water as you will be mildly dehydrated upon waking up. Rehydrating will kick-start your metabolism, help you to flush out harmful toxins, and get your body firing on all cylinders.
